Session 1: Helping your teen discover their God-given identity

How do you respond to the big questions your children are asking about their place and purpose in the world?

A lot of questioning and curiosity goes into understanding one’s place and purpose in the world, questions that often arise during the teen and young adult years. There are myriad outlets young people can tap into as they uncover and solidify who they are, but few of these people or places will offer a Christ-centered approach to discovering one’s purpose and significance.

It can be difficult to help teens wade through all the tough questions, but it is our responsibility as parents to help our children navigate this time in their lives well. Our presence in this season can act as a guide as we remind our children that they are God’s beloved creation and that their identity and purpose must be rooted in Christ as they prepare to make their way in the world.

In this session, Dr. Kara Powell (executive director of Fuller Youth Institute, researcher, and author) discusses the big questions teens are asking about their identity, where they turn to for answers to these questions, and how we as parents can help them on this journey.
