Session 5: Mental health and teens

How do you address and prioritize mental health with the young people in your life?

Today’s teens and young adults report higher levels of anxiety, isolation, and loneliness than generations past. While global connectedness promotes awareness and perhaps a healthier worldview, it also presents more situations in which young people might compare themselves to others — an act that may lower self-esteem — or become worried about how traumatic events that are happening in the world and around them could also happen to them.

As parents and Christians, we have an opportunity to speak hope and life to the young people around us, consistently pointing them back to God’s promises for their lives.

In this session, Terra Mattson (marriage and family therapist, speaker, and author) discusses signs parents might observe if a teen is struggling with their mental health and what steps to take if a young person in your life is in need of support.

Duration: 16 min 22 sec

Note: If a teen or young adult in your life is struggling with an extreme mental health issue, please reach out to a medical professional.
